Which Medicine?

Hi tttnjfttt :)

It sounds like you have a bacterial infection in your tank and these can manifest themselves in a variety of symptoms. Unless you are absolutely certain that your fish had fish TB, it's quite possible that the problem was bacterial too.

All medicine that you can use to treat bacterial infections by adding it to the water will be absorbed through the fish's skin in order to work. Because you are unable to tell exactly what kind of bacteria is infecting your fish, if you use Maracyn, you should also use Maracyn 2 so you can be sure you do the job. Kanamycin or Tetracycline are also good.

One caution I would give you when dealing with this kind of problem is to be certain that once you begin a course of treatment, you continue to use it for the entire time recommended. This is because bacteria can mutate and become immune to that medicine. If this happens, you might find that particular medicine ineffective the next time you have to use it. Do not switch to another medicine until the first one has been completed.

Potentially harmful bacteria are always in a tank, but it's not until the fish become stressed and their immune system weakened, that they are able to infect the fish. This means that while you are medicating them, it is equally important to try to determine what condition might have caused the stress that led up to it. If the problem is not resolved, they will only continue to do poorly.

Good luck and I hope your fish recover soon. :D

I am 99% sure the one I lost was fish TB. His stomache was severely sunken in, to the point his head looked too big for his head. Over the last two days of his life, his spine became bent, looking exactly like the pix I have seen online, but to a slightly lesser degree.
