Once i re-home my common plecs i want another kind of very active catfish but i can't make the same mistake again. I dont want it to grow to big! Lol i don't trust my LFS as they said the plecs would be fine in my tank. Any ideas? Also possiblly one that eats algae but if not possible then okay. Thanks :good:

What size tank do you have?

Bristlenose Plecos (ancistrus) or Bulldog plecos (rubberlipped plecos) are your best to choices for smaller algae eating plecos, these both get to around 4-5 inches and can be kept singularly or in pairs or small groups provided you have enough cover and a territory for each one to claim

:good:

BN-Pleco in my Opinion--
cause we're on the same boat..
my LFS gave me a Gold Spotted- L01
Pleco--- and i managed to gave it back to her--

been searching for King tiger, Queen Arabesque, but no Luck--
and some says if you're looking for an algae controller
then the best choice is a BN-- :D

Are they active and 55 gallons. 4 foot length. 30cm wide. 45cm depth

well i have a 4 foot 63G with 3 Bristlenose and a leopard Peckolta so that 4 plecos in all, (i'm a big fan of all catfish and NW cichlids you see  )
The Bristlenoses are all very active in the tank and you can always see two out of the three, The leopard however is only seen in the late evening.

2 Bristlenoses would be all you'd need really to do a good job of algae control,

I'm going to go against the current here and suggest that 3 or 4 otocinclus is your beat bet for algae control. For active catfish that roam the bottom of the tank, a half dozen cordoras, your choice of variety, make an active shoaling bottom fish. They are not algae eaters but are a very active and entertaining fish. Ultimately the algae is yours to clean up, not your fish's.

I had what i think if i remember correctly was called a banjo catfish a few years ago. It was a really great looking fish that did not grow beyond about 5" or 6" on the downside it was very boring during the daylight hours it just layed there, i sometimes thought is was dead. Real different looking thou which made it worth it for me.

BN's seem like the best but ive never owned one. i dont think corys will clean your algae very much. pry want something with a sucker.

I love catfish, i have 3.

unfortunatly my cats are very shy. i have a whiptail..which i would recomend for a neat looking pleco. they get 6 inches?? or so ive heard)...i have a rubbernose pleco too..good on the algae control but shy unless feeding. my 3rd is the raphael cat, which will be getting a bigger home soon..and he doesnt do anything for the algae

BNs for sure or some yellow and black or white and black pleco...ive never seen one in any of my LFS but would pay high dollar for one. (unsure of their names)
