Having owned both the fluval roma range and the juwel rio range, I have to say Juwel, the Roma's had a habit of leaking condensation, althought this may now have been rectified, I bought a roma because I liked the cabinet doors, with the push release lock, but as two out of three that I owned never sat properly it didnt actually work (and no, I didnt build the cabinet!). Whereas Ive had no problems with the juwel cabinets.

juwel hands down on quality, they have one of the most affective ways of building tanks using 5 people!

I'd say Fluval hands down,

In terms of Quality of the tank and stand there is very little difference, [edit: would have to agree though that the fluval doors are iffy]
However when referring to the lights, heater and filtration, IME there is only one winner

My last tank was a Juwel and the one before that was a Fluval, I had both tanks for the same amount of time give or take about 1 month
On the Juwel, the light unit had to be replaced twice, the heater failed after about 5 months and the filter was very quickly ripped out after the powerhead went.
With the Fluval however nothing failed, The heater and filter even went into the Juwel tank after the juwel items failed

im getting a fluval roma 240 next week. mainly because i can get it brand new with cabinet, heater, filter lights etc for £300

when was the tank produced? and the units that failed? if its about october last year, its because they were made in china, they realised the faults and bought the factory back to germany

was January 06 when i brought it,

ok thanks guys, most probably i will get a jewel but like the look of the roma setups.

does anyone know if any big manufacturers are going to bring out a new range of tanks in this size region

ok thanks, so it looks like jewel is winning hands down then ! :)

i think i will try and get a black one, will suit my room better, and the look- i think i am going to get a hell load of slate and stack that, have a plain black background and then have some smaller tanganyika cichlids, if i can get my hands on some

at the end of the day a fish tank is designed to hold water. both tanks do that well and come with a decent warrenty against leaks

other then that its down to price, looks, what it comes with and your personal preference
