Which Filter?!?!

Hi guys,

Im new on the site but have been keeping fish for a long time!

I have a 260L tank with a sand substrate, a twin outlet air pump and 2 x eheim external (cant remember the model, 2226 or something, the square ones!?!?)I have 12 juvenile Kribs (that i rescued!?), 8 x tiger barbs, 2 x whiptail plecs, a pim pictus cat and a violet dragon gobey.

Im looking a getting a new filter as im not sure mine are at their best anymore. I have a few ideas but thought i would see what u guys think, I also had an issue with algie this summer and was wondering about getting a vecton UV steriliser, i have never used one, what are your thoughts?? I would like quite a heavy duty filter as i plan a few more additions for my tank!

I am looking at the following

Fluval 405
Aqua One 2450 UV (this one is my fave so far as it incorparates a uv!?)
Tetra tec EX1200
Aqua One Aquis 750

What are you thoughts guys and gals?

id go for an eheim classic 2217+ . an absolutely brilliant filter . reknowned for reliability and wil run for years and years . very good flow too , and dead easy to maintain .

when you say yors are not at their best any more how do you mean?

I use the fluval 305 and 405, very quiet. Have only just started fishkeeping so can't give you any insight into long term reliability of these filters but so far very pleased.

They just dont seem to have enough 'umph'!?! they are regulary maintaied and bloackage free, all setup correctly for optimum performance. I would like a large filter for 'over-filtration'. I really like the fx5(?) but its just slightly too large to fit in my cabinet I would like a really good flow and filtration like the fx5 provides!!

Also im not sure what other fish to get, i am a massive fan of oddballs and have previously kept bichirs, snakeheads, chiclids, pirahnas. I would quite like a rainbow snakehead or armoured bichir? I have also thought about getting 2 baby oscars, i have kept these before, i love them so much!! they became very tame and were alomst like dogs!! wagging their fins as i came to the tank and would hand feed!!! I have also thought about 2 gold severums but i dont have much knoledge about them??

have you tried cleaning around the impellar ? also often overlooked try taking the pipes off and cleaning them out. youd be amazed at the gunk that can build up in the pipes .

i have stripped, cleaned and serviced both filters but they are not giving the desired performance. Does any one have any experiance with the following filters?? and if so what size tank you use them in
