Hi
I have just bought a juwel 180 (my 2nd and last  )
I intend to put partitions in it and keep a male betta at each end of and and some females in the middle section.
I am going to remove the built in filter and was wondering which would be best for a betta tank?

1) An external system, I would put a hose along the back so that it would filter throughout the tank evenly.

2) An under gravel system

Any opinions would be appreciated

Thanks

Karen

Hi Karen

Last nite I did just that with my Rekord 60 - 2 dividers in, male each end and some females in the middle.
Regarding the pump - in the R60 its a Juwel 280, with a long periscopic tube to bring the water up and out through a grid at the top of the water line. So I hacked through a few bars of the grid, attached rubber hosing to the mouth of the pump tube outlet, punched a few holes in the tube along its length to spread out the flow( it reaches near to the far side of tank), punched holes in the dividers near back glass wall for tube to go through, and stuck tube along back glass wall in between dividers with suckers with cable tie attachments. It works a charm. Alot of the water from the pump is dumped into end section furthest from pump inlet, but all this water has to go back through middle section and into first section to get pulled back into the inlet. Will post pics soon.Hope this helps.

Hi Lee,
Great minds think alike then
Sounds similar to what i was thinking. Will take the internal filter box out though it takes up too much room and was going to use an external system.
Difficult to know what to do for the best!
Like the idea of the under gravel filter but not sure how much of a hassle they are.
Pics would be great!

Thanks

Well i've ordered a Tetratec ex 700 and a new heater.
The tank is now divided Perspex is a pig to cut! Just have to wait for the rest to be delivered. Then the cycling to do!

Been banned from buying any more aquariums now

Where are the pics Lee?

Could try using an external for the centre, and then hae 2 sponge filters for the male bettas end using 1 airpump on split airlines so basically 1 external and 2 sponge fitlers for the tank the centre could be an internal... if you wanted thats simplicity IMO

Filter arrived today, a bit of additional piping and its up and running :good:
It's Ssooo quiet!
Can start the fishless cycle now and plants will arrive next week.
A couple of weeks and i'll be getting me some more Betta's
