Hey guys! I've had my 10 gallon tank set up for about a year now, with one of those waterfall type filters. (aquaclear 30.) I always keep pantyhose on the filter, and have the current set down to low, but nonetheless, I have still lost many babies due to these stupid filters.
I want to get or make a sponge filter, but here's the thing:
If I'm buying one, I need to consider the:
-price
-stores
-sizes
If I'm making one, I need to consider the:
-materials
-simplicity of making it
-cost of materials
-where to get the materials
-how much materials

Because, I'm young, and I would need to let my parents know what I need beforehand.
Please include set-up and maintenance of a sponge filter in your answer.
Thanks in advance for any help!

I had one in my breeding bristlenose tank, done a great job and costs around 6pounds...just connect to your air pump<if you have one

Buy an Aqua Clear 70 sponge. Carefully poke a hole half way through the long way with a sharp knife. Remove the pantyhose, slide the AC70 sponge over the intake of the filter. This is cheaper than buying or building a sponge filter. I used to do this all the time with AC50's, in 20 & 29 gallon fry tanks. If pantyhose worked better I would have been using that.

Thank you very much. But wouldn't the fry still get stuck to the sponge or something? (The little holes in it.) Or wouldn't the sponge not filter enough because the suction isn't strong enough? So I guess that would act as a sponge filter than... Thanks! :good:
I'll see about getting an AC70 sponge when I go to the petstore in 2 days.
