Where Is Best To Place My New Heater

I am not new to aquariums, I've had them in some sort since 1977. But I am still learning.

I just got a new heater for my 30 gal. long. It is a titanium ViaAqua. The heater and an attached sensor go inside the tank, and the control for the temp is placed on the wall (not wall of aquarium). It says to place the heater where there is good water circulation.

I have my filter (emperor 280) on the left side of my aquarium and a bubble stone on the right side. I put the heater on the right side, in the stream of bubbles. Thinking that the bubbles are good circulation. Am I right in putting it there That is where I have had all my other ones.

I am not sure where else it would fit in my aquarium and have room for the sensor too. The sensor has to be a minimum of 4 inches away. I have an 8" by 5" cave attached in the middle of my tank on the back wall of the aquarium. So I can't put the heater there. And all the pictures in the instructions for installation show the sensor placed to the left of the heater. That is where the cord for the sensor comes out of the heater.

Again, I am asking if it is ok to place the heater in the bubbles of an air stone?

Yeah it should be. It is the same concept as putting it by a filter.

I personally would not have it in the bubble stream. If the heater is actually in contact with the bubbles then you could effectively be heating air that is then escaping at the top of the water column. This may make the filter less economical.

The heater can go anywhere so long as it's not in a flow 'dead-spot'.

I dont think you have to worry about that in the slightest, thats taking pedantic to a new level

You can chuck a heater almost anywhere in a fish tank, having a bit of flow over it is always recommended so the thermostat doesnt get false readings, but you are only talking about a very small difference in temp.

Personally, i agree with Zoddy, but not in an "economical sense".

The p[roblem with placing a heater in the air bubble steram is that the heater isnt in full contact with the water, and we all know what happens it a heater gets left on when not submerged, it goes bang.

Same principle, if the heater is surrounded by an air jacket, its going to get hotter than it normally would (water transfers heat from a surface 100% faster than air) and possibly go pop in the tank.

For the sake of this not happening, i wouldnt personally place a heater in a bubble stream
