I went to the store to get two more Red Wag Platy's for my male, since I didn't want it to be only 1 male 1 female. And now, surprise surprise one of the ones I got it definitely pregnant.

She's got the dark spot and her birthing tube is already out. I put her in the birthing net. It's a really good one, it's got this thing that the babies can slip into where mom can't get them, so my two surviving, bigger babies from Victoria (one of my other females), are safe and so will the new fry.

Just wondering, when will she give birth? She doesn't seem to like the trap very well but my male was bugging her and I didn't want them to be born inside the tank. She seems stressed. So how long will it be? Also, how many babies approx. will be born?

cool
id love to see my fishes give birth
ive got 1 fry

Lol I tried to watch, but whenever I went up to look she would freak out and start spazzing all over the place, so I had to leave. I think it's her first birth, cause she seemed pretty freaked out from everything.

if youve got a fish in a breeder trap then you should probably switch the light off, it makes her less stressed.

I've switched off the light, and she still zipped around like crazy.
She's done now, but now my male guppy is constantly bugging them. ;n; I might have to move him to the ten gallon, but that one has a really mean gourami in it. I'm not sure what to do. Let him terrorize the platy girls or let him be terrorized by my gourami.

Well when she is done then put her back in the main tank because she wouldn't have another batch until it has been AT LEAST 2 weeks, sometimes even one, after she has given birth. If the male goes hard on her then I would put her back.

As for the gourami, if it is aggressive towards other fish then I would think it is better to leave the male where it is. You could buy another tank specially for the mother and babies.

It's not just the mother and babies, he's CONSTANTLY trying to mate with my girls, NEVER giving them a break. The poor girls. Atleast Mickey leaves them alone in that department. He likes to hang with them, but not mate with them. The girls are trying to always run away from my cobra guppy, and i'm afraid they will get so stressed that they will die.
