Hey,

I put 6 Serpae Tetras in my tank last Thursday with my Loan Black Neon. The following Saturday lost one Serpae..Unsure why as the water tests showed everything was perfect. Since they've all been fine.

Now I want to add more fish am wonering if its too soon. I wanted to add 3 loaches and maybe two Albino corys or one Albino cory and some other kind of catfish. Algaes been building up on the front of my tank this past week as well. I'm not sure how much they need to feed on?? You think it would be alright to add more at this point or wait a little longer..The tanks about 5 weeks old.

Cheers,

Adam

Hi Adam and welcome if you're new!

I'm sure lots of advice is on the way, so I'll direct my own comments to a few things that will maximize our help to you: At the start of help threads, let us know the size of your tank in addition to the timing of things (I see its been running about 5 weeks.) Let us know how much of that time was devoted to the fishless cycle and how much to the more recent period with fish in the tank. What type of filter do you have and what steps did you take to cycle it? Let us know exactly what type of test kit you use and which tests you perform - and about your water change schedules. Another detail that can help a lot is to add your geographical location by editing your profile - this helps in a number of ways regarding advice about available supplies and about types of water chemistry sometimes.

You've found a great webforum. Hopefully the members here can start absorbing your info and begin to steer you in the right direction for the most important things that need to be verified before that final pleasure of obtaining the right fish and bringing it home to a healthy environment.

I usually leave it at least 2 weeks after losing a fish before I add anymore. That gives the tank time to settle down and if there are any problems with the current fish they will normally show up within the 2 week period.

Colin is right on the money with that. The biggest thing about what waterdrop said is that with the right information on tank size and the state of your cycle we can be more accurate in giving you the right advice rather than just generalities.
