I think a lot of people disregard the tail but i always include it - after all it is part of the fish. :D

:D now that is kind of spooky. I was going to edit the post and say, well I spose a girl would exclude it but a guy, well he'd be sure to add the tail on and some. :D

So if you were selling a fish and were asked for measurement best to actually say 'including or excluding tail'.
Thanks Ferris. :)

if it's me - the measurement is the approx measurement of the fish including tail as with most malawis the body goes to almost the end anyways... an approx 3" fish is approx 3" with/without tail. i would also always post a picture if i could as then it confirms approx size, sex and type of fish to the potential buyer. :D

things with long tails could easily be mis-construde..

for example
a 6" rat however could be a 3" rat with a 3" tail or a 6" rat with a 4" tail - meaning a 10" rat :-(

I'll have to say it depends on the fish  .

Take a fancy goldfish as an example. I would not include the tail since it can be as long as the fish its' self. Or fish like my African Lungfish where the tail and the tail fin begins or end is kind a blurred I measuer the whole lot. So, I suppose if the tail is less than half of the fish's body then yes I count it in the measurement.

Yawn.....now I am losing the will to live..................................zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

it then begs the question Cheffi.......

whadda you sellin then? :hey:

Two humungous acei for starters.

Well I've just checked on CF and adult size for a male they say is 6" so I have to assume CF measurements are excluding tail because my boy is way over 6" and the female over 4".

I have always understood that it is PC to exclude the tail. But I buy lots of fish online, and the tail has clearly been included in the measurement often.

I always state w/ or w/o the tail.

It is so very much more impressive to say "a 12" frontosa w/o the tail"! :p Of course describing a frontosa as 12" and then replying "Oh! Of course, that's w/o the tail," when asked is also very smart!

when I have been reading around that always stuck with me that you exclude the tail hmmm not sure now

Easiest way is to lay 'em down on the ruler then tuck their tails underneath while you take the measurement :shifty:

Actually cories are often posted sitting on rulers. :p

Thanks again for super chuckles! I got another today from someone complaining about very thin bread fish.

you know, sometimes I have wondered about the cories on the ruler? Do you think the cories could be sitting on the bottom of a beanie box and the ruler under the box? Now is the time to say "Silly jollysue!"
