whats your favourite tetra?

Black phantom (so I voted other). They are peaceful and beautiful. They also have more character than many other tetras. Males have long fins that they use to display to one another and they can even change color rapidly from pale silver-white to almost solid black with irridescent hilights. Females also have a lovely hint of red which the males lack. When in a large school in a planted tank and with peaceful tankmates, they look absolutely stunning. They realy live up to their name, hovering and 'flaring', reminiscent of ghosts, and gracefuly weaving through the plants. They also don't have the 'typical' fish shape associated with neons or rummies so they add a little extra to a peaceful community and, as they aren't shy, they also make good dithers and are usualy in plain view.

why would you vote neon over cardinal

they are almost the same .....except cardinals have more colour.

unless people are voting for them as they are cheap?

lol...this is one i have always wondered.......neons are prob the most bough fish in the hobby....yet they are cardinals with less colour.

now i know why though...they must be bought by people that only started his week

the only thing that would make sense is if you have a small tank....20 neons would look better than 8 cardinals........gives me an idea - im going to swap my 30 cardinals for a monster shoal of neons....now how do i change my vote!

There's other reasons too - neons are smaller. Until recently, tank-raised neons were also much easier to find than tank-raised cardinals - making the neons the hardier choice. Also, some people may just preffer the red/white/blue neon pattern to the red/blue cardinal pattern. Beginners also are more likely to find the name 'neon' more attractive than the name 'cardinal'. Things like that do actualy play a big part in which fish people choose - especialy if kids are involved. Last thing I can think of - even non-fishy people have heard of the ever-popular 'neon'. Few have heard of 'cardinals'. It would be natural for them to go for the name they are more familiar with.

I voted black widows as these are the only one I've owned and I do think they make a great addition to the tank.

Tiggs - I love Neons. Yes I've heard of cardinals and I know what they look like and no it is not because you can get more neons in a tank than cardinals!! I simply prefer Neons and find them more appealing.

Green Fire Tetras!! next favorite are Emperors.

Buenos Aires Tetras are evil. I'm never keeping them again unless I get into JDs and Oscars. BATs get huge, will even eat watersprite, and take chunks out of tails if you skip two days of feeding.

I have voted neon
due to the fact that I have 3 colour morphs of the neon ATM
and I am looking for diamond head neons and albino neons to add to them

I voted 'Other' - for a tetra no one else seems to have voted for - Lemon tetras. I think they're lovely, but you don'y see them around that often.
