I've had my tank for a while now it's a 35ml tank and everything has been going smoothly. However in the last month or so, the water has been really cloudy, and I mean REALLY, REALLY cloudy!! You can't see into it at all. I would like to know what is causing this problem, or maybe hear from someone who has had the same problem, and knows how to fix it. Is it to do with the fish? Or maybe the plants (which by the way are all artificial if that means anything at all)?? Please help!!

a 35ml tank....... what is it a syringe.............? :hyper: the artificial plants should be fine as long as they are for aquariums. i would do a big water change and see how it goes, then do a 25% change weekly as most people would recommend anyway without any probs.

Hehe, gonna guess it's 35l not 35ml...
Anyhoo couple of questions...
I'm going to guess the tank wasn't cycled before fish were added, but was it?
If it was then exactly how did you cycle it?
What fish are in the tank at the mo?
What are you tank water stats?

And now for the cause of the cloudiness.
It's a bacterial bloom, this happens in un cycled tank when there is ammonia present.
Do at least 1 50% water change a day and you should see it clear within a few days.

im backing up Curiosity101

do a nice big water change over the week with declor water :good:

if it persists; do a huge water change and i would personally try a blackout.

we will also need water params ;D

A blackout on a bacterial bloom? I'm confused (not saying you're wrong. Just wondering if there's something I've missed...)

when i first started fish keeping with my 10gal, i used to feed them alot and i had a frog who i thought ate shrimp pellats(this one didnt and none of the fish did either) and the shrimp pellots exploded and was so yellow and clouded it was ridic.

but in ur case im sure its just a bacterial thing like everyone else is saying ;)

good luck keep us posted

i would do the whole tank all over clean everything out use hot water to clean the gravel, now my question is are chemicals really needed in a tank? i have 7 fish tanks running with out any chems.....when i use to put chems in the tank the cloudyness would appear or it would make the water look really oilly and the smell was real bad.

Now that i dont have chems the water smells like water and the tank is clear and the fish are dancing,,,,,,,Sorry for asking a question under ur post but maybe out of this question you can get more answers on why your H2O is cloudy maybe its something ur putting in chemical wise. ive been running my tanks for 10 months without a problem.

The cloudiness is a bacterial bloom due to the tank being uncycled...
It has nothing to do with chemicals.

In my tanks I add:
Tap water conditioner
AE Liquid carbon
TPN+

My tank has been running for over 2 years and I've only every had cloudiness twice.
Once when I changed substrate to sand...so it was clearly the sand.
And once when I'd let the filter media dry out a bit whilst changing tanks and so had lost some bacteria.

Chemicals has nothing to do with it.

sorry about the blackout idea, i read it up on the net a few days ago

would it be due to direct sunlight on the tank?
also is it a brand new tank or a secondhand one?

ohhg and on subject of the 35ml

I have a 300ml aluminum tank (it says coke on the side of it) and one large angelfish, am i overstocked?
heh he
