Help. I have two tanks with cory fry in it. The bigger are all doing well in a tank in our bedroom, but the smaller fry, in another tank in the lounge, have started dying. :-( Some are spiralling all over the place, some lying on their sides, breathing hard and almost certainly on the brink of death. Some look like they were swollen under their chins. I do water changes everyday, the same water, same temp and never had problems. Now this. Anyone got an idea whats going on????

Can you post water stats in ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, and ph, it sounds like a bad bacterial infection in the tank.

Hi Wilder,

Nitrite, 0. Nitrate, 5.0. Ammonia, 0. And the PH 6.0.

All seems well, not sure what's up with them. :-( Poor little things.

Hi Carmen. Those stats look perfect and 5ppm Nitrate is extremely low (which is very good) - considering the test presumably can test up to 160ppm - though almost anything above 20 looks exactly the same to me  And you have no ammonia or nitrite, so all seems well. Just out of interest, did that pH chance at all, or is your water always 6 ?

Anyway, I know it might be too late (fry usually deteriorate very quickly once started), but perhaps you should pm Inchworm and see if she will respond and help you.

Best of luck

Thanks Bloozoo2. It was estimated ph, the colour was yellow, so it was taken as 6. We have been doing plenty water changes over the last couple days, but lost already about 50%. Very upsetting, but I suppose that's nature. We haven't had problems with bronze fry before. Obviously lost some, but not like this. Thanks again. :|

Hi Shaz

The fry are looking a bit better. No more dead one's, but I'm still worried about them. Luckily the tank in the room has about 30 nice size one's. Hope they don't contract this illness.

Keep well, Carmen

Oops :S I just read my ph level. Not sure what I was thinking last night. It's actually 7!!! I have a cold at the moment, and had taken some medicine before typing, so sorry about that. Cheers, Carmen ;)
