ive had it since novemeber and it used to always be about exploring, but the last few weeks it is really inactive, he has its shell closed most of the time and doesnt move for days and when he does its not for long. i hsve tried different foods and he doesnt even look at it. what can i do? water stats are perfect changed 50% last night. im gutted cuz i know the chances of getting another isnt very likely :(

if you take snail out and tap its little trap door, does it react at all?

its tightly shut, when i take him out the water he doesnt do anything, but hes not dead. sometimes its half shut, earlier it was tight shut snd now its relaxed a bit.

Sorry to cut in here, MBOU- what type of snail is that in your profile picture? Thanks

Do you know what the ph of our water is? As snail shells are calcium compounds bonded to a living organic membrane, acid water dissolves calcium compounds.

They can survive from 6.7 ph but much prefer 7-8.

Has it plenty of breathing space at the top of aquarium? I appreciate they have a gill and a siphon for breathing but they do like to spend time at the top of the tank to breathe atmospheric air.

I had one years ago, but they sometimes don't do too well in aquariums as they can't estivate as they would in the wild ( they burrow in soft muddy substrates and follow a natural cycle during the dry season.

Some say that they can almost 'burn' out kept in warmer waters constantly such as in an aquarium :/

i have high ph so that shouldnt be it :/ its full to the top but theres room for him to get out :/ temp is 24. i have sand substrate would that matter?

Shelster, its not a snail as such :) Marine Stomatella

well he still has hardly moved since saturday and hasnt moved at all since sunday morning!

Sorry, I don't know what to suggest.

MBOU it's a good pic!

maybe i should take him out, i have a 10L plastic tank i used for an emergancy, maybe i could put him in there with shallow water? but it doesnt have a heater or filter :\

try it, cant make it worse mate!! I cant say much to help you really :(

so, took him out and put him in seperate tank for 24hrs, no movement, so put him back into main tank last night, and hasnt moved still, so he hasnt moved now since sunday, but he still isnt dead!! if he is going to die i would rather he just did it!!! its stressing me out!!

I used to have apple snails.3 were eaten by my sisters goldfish (grr) and the 4th died for no apparent reason. he just floated and when he began to smell i took him out.
