After my failed attempt to spawn my black orchid with the mgct girl, I put her back in the community and him back into his tank

Ever since then he was looking pale and was very quiet, then I noticed he was flicking, but without any outward physical signs, eating but quiet

Anyway overnight he just looks shredded, I don't know how else to explain it, not like fin rot much literally torn

What's up with him and what can I do?

Some of the girls are panting a bit, I'm worried that there was something in the spawning tank that they've taken with them back into their own tanks - and passed on? They are all eating and swimming about.

That breeding tank that I used, it hadn't been used in ages, had nothing but clean water and my own silk plants in it that I'd used in tanks before and had not caused any problems.

If his fins are torn, you might use melafix.

Does it look like there is anything on him? flicking or rubbing could be a parasite

If you think he has a parasite you will have to treat both tanks

Flicking can be a sign of external parasites, and it can also occur when you do a complete change in water, and the water is just completely different, so they try to 'free themselves from it'. Do you notice any specs at all on him? Was there a drastic change in water perimeters when you changed him?

I pray it is not this. which is what I lost half of my bettas with by cross infection
Columnaris can be external or internal and may follow a chronic or acute course. Lesions in chronic cases progress slowly, taking many days before culminating in fish death. In acute cases the lesions spread quickly, often wiping out entire populations of fish within hours. High water temperatures accelerate the progression of the disease; however lowering the water temp will not affect the outcome of the disease.
# Symptoms: White spots on mouth, edges of scales, and fins
# Cottony growth that eats away at the mouth
# Fins disintegrate beginning at the edges
# 'Saddleback' lesion near the dorsal fin
# Fungus often invades the affected skin
# Rapid gilling in cases where gills are infected

fingers crossed I am wrong...but one of mine had shredded fins for no reason :good: :good:

No change in parameters, just new treated tap water as per usual. No specs on him at all, just loss of colour and now today these shredded fins

I did wonder if it was this but none of the above symptoms other than the shredding fins fit the bill. It's just pure odd.

Stress can cause the pale colour and even the shredded fins...all i can suggest is good healthy food maybe some IAL and melafix, put him out of the way so he is not gettin disturbed. Other than that i am stumpped

poor old Jet. keep us posted. perhaps he just needs time out and some peace and tlc.

He's been getting it, he has been back in his own home for over a week, even moved him to a sunnier spot for the vitamin D lol
I just wonder why overnight he suddenly looks so rough

I've transferred him to a large vase with a large surface area and popped his heater inside, so I can do water changes twice a day now.

I've popped in some melafix, pimafix, salt, IAL and as I now have noticed some ich on his side fins, I've used to ich treatment too.

He's not really lifeless, he's not really full of life either, but in the past when I've had fish with fins wearing away they have just sat there and done nothing.
He is half perky, so I'm holding out lots of hope for my little man.

Good news about Jet, he's responded really well to the new arrangement/medication and has perked up a lot today
He still looks awful fin-wise, but he has his colour back already

Jet is doing soooooo well, his fins are growing back so quickly! He was a muddy washed out pale brown when he was ill with no fins, but his rich orchid colours are back and his fins are growing about a milimetre a day, he's a miracle fish!
