I have 6 corydorus juli catfish in my fish tank (the spotty ones) and they have been acting wierd lately, very playfull chasing each other around the tank, I watch them run off in there pairs and then one of them just stops swimming and goes dorment whilst the other looks like its sucking on its belly type of thing lol.

I read sumwere that when they breed they do some sort of tee shape (T). And thats kind ov what they are doing. they have done this since I recently put a slate cave in.

sorry just took a pic I not gone to bed yet lol This is what they keep doing

definately breeding female is sucking sperm from male to fertilise her eggs ...mine are constantly breeding ...after shes done that to him she should go off to sides of glass/tank or plants and lay eggs against them ...if ur watching you will see this ...1 of my female peppers has just laid 130+ eggs in one day .. happy days xx and congrates on your corys spawning xx kaz x

I just looked at a aquarium book which I have and the cory julli pictures are identical to my fish, also the pet store sold them as jullis £18 for 3 I think I paid.

Anyway I dont have any eggs this morning which is a shame, Just wondering If any one knows what exactly they do when spawning, Does the female suck the sperm from the male and then the eggs inside her get fertilised and after a few days she places them sumwere, or is it done soon after the sucking of the sperm lol.

yeh your part right female sucks sperm from male to fertilise the eggs shes carrying ..literally seconds later my female will go to the sides of glass and lay some then male will keep trying to piggyback ride as such ...think hes trying to get her attention and push his side onto her ...then few seconds later theyre off again and so on ..mine did this for virtually most of the day tons of eggs ...the female carrys her eggs in her lower fins clamped together you can see them before she lays them ..

sorry you didnt find any eggs what other fish you got ? they may have all been eaten during the night many a time ive woken to see some very fat and happy fish ...or have you checked inside any plants ? on the heater ?

i usually scrape some eggs out and put in a qt tank and leave rest in tank ..nothing ever made it yet in parenta tank as its community tank ..tetras,corys,guppies,otos they all love the eggs ...and if eggs did hatch in there the fry would then possibly get eaten ...

hope it helps ..ps if theyve done it once they will again ....

I wouldnt pay much attention to what the LFS sell fish as when it involves cory's...

Notice how one is more spotty on the head the other is more like little squiggles

Going by the photo your are most definitley not julli.

As to the actual process of fertalisation, i think it's still pretty much uknown other than yes the female is coollecting rerady to fertalise but how she does it is speculation :)

thanks for the reply,

My tank has

2 x guppy
3 x honey gourami
1 x angelfish
6 x cory julii

Was thinking that if I found some eggs i would try and scoop them up and put them into my net cage seperator thingy which my guppy is currently in as she is fat and pregnant.

They deffo are Trilli cory, sorry about this but the lfs ripped you off. :(

It may have been by accident or on purpose. Who knows.
