What's This On Leafs?

it will certainly absorb some if not most of the nutrients (trace elements) in liquid ferts.
edit there are some activated carbons that don't impact as highly as others though edit
The carbon been going for a few months any way so I hear that it probably won't be affective now so I should be ok.

The only ferts I could get hold of was some love fish brand from pets at home. £4 for 100ml. Will order the stuff you suggested on Friday.

Also should I stick to label dosage or over dose? Only reason I ask is I've seen post about OD with excel.

Excel is not a fertilizer, its a CO2 substitute.  The algae can't break it down to use it as carbon, but plants can, so it can kill the algae while boosting the growth of the plants (providing carbon).

Oh ok. Is it in a liquid form? Is it something I should be using? I don't have any co2 machine. Plants are java moss and fern with anubias nana .

Shouldn't be necessary with those plants, but it won't hurt them either.  It will help to deal with the BBA though.

I had this on my Anubias so I got the plant out and got a kitchen sponge with the scouring pad on one side, I then gently stroked the leaves one way only from broad end to the pointed end with the scouring side of the pad keeping the leaf in the palm of my hand. (This is done in a bowl of tank water keeping the leaf under the water) the algae comes off quite easily. I upgraded the lighting, no more algae growth since, this was nine months ago. No need to cut off the leaves. All plants are growing faster with new lighting.
