What's the fastest way to remove tanins from driftwood?

I have a Bristle Nose Catfish (which my LFS called a Peppered Catfish, and when I corrected them, they said, Oh no, that's a bristle nose, it wasn't but I couldn't see it well enough to identify it) I read somewhere they like to gnaw on driftwood, but I want to get rid of the tanins out of it first, so it doesn't make my tank look like well stewed tea!

put it in boiling water for 20+ minutes and then soak it in cold/cool water for 12-24 hours, that what i did, and it seemed to be fine after.

Unfortunately mine was too big to put in a pot so i had to put mine in the bath covered in very hot water every day and night for a week (changing the water in the morning and aqain in the evening) before the water stayed clear. My Mrs wasn't best pleased  Lucky we have a shower as well overwise we all may have been a little ripe after a week with no bath
