Ok, the past 3 days 3 of my cories have died. I do noy know what they died from. Today is when I found the 3rd dead, with a big red spot on it stomach. I have no idea what is killing them.

Have you added anything new to the tank & have you tested your water?

I have not added any new fish for a while, last new fish I added was about a month ago. But these where my friends fish that she raised. And where in awesome health! My Nitrite is 0, my Nitrate is about 15. pH is fine, temp is at 72.

About 2 months ago I changed to sand. I even bought 'aquarium sand'.

Here's a photo she sent me yesterday on her phone. The quality isn't good but you can see the red on the belly.

Thanks Lisa :) This was the last dead one I found but I have seen this on 2 out of 3 dead ones. The only reason I think that I couldnt see it on the other one is because he was a bronze.

until you know what you're ammonia reading is, you can't be sure. The red spot may just be a sore from your previous gravel. If you can get us the ammonia reading to eliminate this, then we can begin to narrow it down a bit more for you :)

Ok, I got ammonia testing supplies. My ammonia is at 0. I have not lost anymore cories, or any other fish for 2 days.

That's awesome. If things start to look bad again, find this thread and post a new message in it with fresh water details (it'll appear back at the top of the list) and we'll see if we can't eliminate some common afflictions.

just to add, that red belly looks pretty normal for an albino bronze cory

I just occurred to me after looking at the photo a couple of times that it looks like a kind of burn on the belly. What condition is your heater in? Unreliable heaters is why I'm switching all my heaters to inline versions. I've had several of the in-tank varieties fail in one way or another, including one that exploded, so no more!

@Zoddy ... I have a dozen albinos and none have a belly that red.
