hi guys just a quick question why do you have to have polystyrene under the tank . and do you have to have something under it thanks

Not all tanks need to have polystyrene under them, it's mostly older tanks that need it to prevent any tiny pieces of grit possibly cracking them.
Most modern ones don't need it.
What tank do you have?

unless there is a frame around the bottom of the tank holding it off the floor/cabinet Then yes you need polystyrene under it. If not the smallest bit of grit could break the glass. Water weighs 1kg per litre. or 10lb per gallon.
