I did a water change yesterday and didn't see anything then, thinking these are something which must have hatched last night, they are on the glass on inside of my tank, tiny tiny tiny teardrop shapes crawling around, any idea what they might be, they are white, move quite quickly.....anything to worry about?
Only thing I've noticed was some littl flies in the flat last night, could they have laid eggs while I was water changing?

Any advice welcome!

Thanks! :good:

if they are white they won't be mozzie larvae. They sound like cyclops, a small crustacean that is fed to little fish. The females have a couple of filaments on their back that they carry eggs on and you end with with tiny little Y shaped things scooting across the glass. Male cyclops can be a problems and sometimes get into the gills of fish and need treating with copper or something along those lines.

hmmm not fry only 1 male betta an unknown sex of pitbull pleco in the tank, so far they don't sound like anything suggested, there's one which is possibly a bigger version of the little ones which looks more like a tiny white weevel thing.....no sign of them being Y shaped as yet...all still just on glass it appears

Ok two clearest I could get, there aren't so many today, or at least not on front pain of glass as I can see, these pictures are of left hand side pain, they really are tiny so sorry for non clearness, I don't have a camera that i can manual focus to that small!

As you can see from the last one, that's a tiny mystery snail there, and they're WAYYYY smaller, remind me of fleas that don't jump or something!

Any ideas anyone?

either planaria or hydra. If they have tiny little tentacles on the end in the water they are hydra.
Planaria are common in tanks with a lot of organic matter in it. Try increasing gravel cleans and do more frequent water changes. They aren't a big problem tho unless you are trying to breed fish. then they eat the eggs.

aren't planaria worms?
Silly thing is they turned up after a number of 50% water changes to remove meds in my tank....so in tank terms it's almost spotless.
Haven't seen tentacles and they aren't worm shaped, do planaria start out like this?

planaria are flatworms that grow to about 8mm long x 4mm wide. Normally they are smaller than that. Do they stick out into the water or are they flat on the glass? If they are sticking out then hydra, flat would indicate planaria.

Ostracods and copepods are found everywhere and anywhere (even the moist substrates of rainforest floors!!!) so yes there are many freshwater species.

I've had various of these things before so I'm pretty confident on it! lol

to be honest these sound more likely...they are more crustacean shaped....any idea how they'd have gotten in?
Not added anything in AGES, added some safe sea pebbles I found weeks ago, could they have come from that (i cleanesed them in boiling water beforehand).....not added anything else.

Will they a some point most likely become food for my fighting fish do you think?

(they don't seem to come out of the water....just crawl along the glass)
