What's Going On?

i could be way off the mark, and u guys are already giving great advice, but cant betas survive in little oxygen since they can take it in from the air above the water? maybe u dont have enough oxygen flow in the water? wouldnt explain the plant dieing, but that could be something different all together,

Ok, so substrate cleaned, filter cleaned, flow is reasonable as don't want to blow the betta around the tank. Not sure what to do concerning the possibility of ammonia?

The two danios that I added are still fine, been dosing TPN+ and to be honest, I haven't really seen a lot of algae growth in the last week. Normally I would have to clean it nearly every week because it would be covering the glass at the front and sides of the tank and you could hardly see in, but it is still clear.

I have the filter outlet on the surface of the water to create agitation for oxygenation, and the danios are fine, not at all "gaspy" or anything like that which you would associate with low oxygen concentrations.

I haven't seen a difference in plant growth really yet, although I realise it could take them a couple of weeks to get going again. The frogbit has almost disappeared with just a couple of plants remaining. Hopefully it'll pick up before it all disappears. I think I ought to get a prize though for managing to kill frogbit!!

Hi all,

Just thought I'd update on this so that if anyone in future reads back over it with a similar problem, they'll find out what went on ;)

After adding the 2 danios, I noticed a slowing of the algae growth in the tank and a slight growth in the plants. However after adding the other 4 danios, algae growth is unnoticable and the plants are growing pretty much back to normal again :) I have also noticed any little remaining bits of algae that were on plants or whatever have now gone, perhaps the danios ate it or something, but it saves me digging everything out one last time ;) Hehe.

The betta has remained unbothered by the whole thing, swimming around quite the thing. I haven't re-tested the water as yet, I probably should to see if it was due to the nitrates being lower... Hmmm *ponders*
