What'S A Gibis?

Hi

I am looking at a tank for sale locally, unfortunately it comes already stocked and am trying to figure out if the stock combination is ok..

Its a 100l tank

Its advertised as been set up for a year with no problems.

It has the following stock (the guy isn't really sure about names as its his daughters tank);

4 x tiger barbs
4 x leopard danios
2 x red gibis
1 x ghost gibis
1 x red taied shark
1 x siamese catish
1 x kissing gourami
1 x oplaine (do you think he mean a opaline gourami)
1 x golden oplaine (in the pic this looks lie a gol gourami)
4 x penguin tetras
2 x speckled catfish (he does not know their name)

Any commets on this mix? It seems a bit of an odd mix and surprised no squabbles, and wondering if overstocked in long run.

I haven't heard of a gibis?

I would say the tank is overstocked.
The larger fish-Kissing gourami can reach upto 12 inches,shark 6 inches,siamese catfish 5 inches,and depending what the 'speckled catfish' are?
Opaline gouramis 4 inches,the rest average out around 2 inches each.

That kissing gourami can get to a foot long! Many of the fish there need upwards 40 gallons.

If you get the tank, loads of the larger fish will need rehoming.

hmm not heard of that,maybe just maybe they were refering to gibbicep,a catfish commonly brought as a cleaner fish which grow huge

Yeah my bet is the "gibis" is a gibbicep as well. Unfortunately its a far too commonly traded huge plec that needs 6ft+ tanks to house for life. If you got it I would be tempted to rehome most of the fish and start from scratch unless there are any fish in there that are suitable for the tank and also that you really like.

Have a chat with your local fish store,or you could put an ad in the local paper,gumtree etc..

It was all looking like a huge job and it eventually went for £92 so let it go.

6 x angels
6 x B. Boesemani
3 x Otocinclus

I want another 3ft tank to keep as a species only Rainbowfish tank.
