What Would You Pay For A Pair Of Guppies

I would never pay $220 for a pair of guppies. Those guppies ARE really nice, but Id still only pay 10 or $20 for the pair.

I agree with you Alistriwen, but some of these guys are really dedicated to the fancy guppy hobby and the guppies which went for the big bucks were very very rare fish which had been painstakingly line bred in Europe. In some ways they were even more rare than the rare wild fish that was on sale in the auction.

You could see that some of these guys had travelled across the country / Europe just to buy a single pair of fish and they were going to get them at any cost. We may think they are mad, but the hobby relies on these people to produce new and even more rare strains.

The auction was part of a fantastic fishy weekend; the guppy show started on the Friday, there must have been in excess of 500 lots in the auction on Sunday and there were lectures all day Saturday from 11am until around 10:30pm. It may have been because I was involved in it, but I thought it was one of the best weekends that I have ever been to and I have been to shows across Europe and beyond.

I agree it was a great weekend and I loved it.

The most I payed for some fish in the auction was £10 for 6 just sexable red eye red's and also got a stunning trio of red/blue grass delta tail guppies for £12.

But i also had a random moment in the auction lot 99 from the guppy show was for sale and no one was bidding (could not see the fish as they was still in the guppy show) so i decided to get them for a bargain price of £3
On viewing the show this is what i got.

It's a moscow with a red red tail guessing it's a F1 or F2 cross of a moscow fish with a half black red?
So will like to see what the next generation will be intresting to see.

50p per Guppy, they are common as muck and thus should be cheap as muck

Sorry Dark Entity, these fish are not common as muck.

The guppies on display were very rare and not at all like those you buy in the shops.

Their is a big difference between shop fish and show fish. and one reward with breeding there fish is getting something back for them, so breeding and sharing them in a auction can help your feeding and keeping costs (as your never make money!!) and maybe with travel costs.

So selling a pairs at a reasonable price is very handy most of the fish in the auction was sold for £5-10 which was for wild livebearers and guppies. The show fish for sale had their own extra mini auction and these was getting on average £5-30 a pair.

I personally spent a lot of money on this weekend, and know Dunchp did as well (drinks was very expensive ;) )

So basically what I'm saying is if your prepared to put the time into working on these lines if fish (Not Shop Fish) then you should beadle to demand a premium.

I would pay a good amount for a rare guppy pair infact if anyone would like to sell me some get intouch thanks.

Not wanting to get into a huge debate, but Guppy's are Guppys doesnt matter how you tart them up. If you wish to spend stupid money on what in essence is a beginner fish and "is" common as muck thats your business, someone asked peoples opinions and i gave it :)

it's also person preference as well, if you dont like guppies then your not going to pay.

It's like these catfish and cichlids that sell for silly money in shops!!!! who would want to pay £30 for a deformed cichlid yet parrots sell all the time.

Yah, I don't see anything wrong with someone else paying as much as was paid, I just wouldn't do it myself :p.
