In my kitchen at the end of the worktop area I have a bit of wall that is 80cm before you get to the door out to the extension. I have got a 2ft tank in the gap at the moment but have been looking for a 2.5ft for ages now with no joy (in beech to match my kitchen).

Well they are like busses because 2 have become available

However 1 is 2.5ft and the light isn't working and it has no extras and is around £75 in light beech and is 40 gallons

The other one is 81cm so would have a 1cm overhang and has got everything working, is more local, has got an external filter with it and is around £115 and is about 25 gallons

What would you do? Wait for something else more suitable or choose from one of these 2, basing your decision on what and what would you choose? Really in a dilemma here!

On me own then!

awwwwww! :D

I dont know if 10mm overhang is enough to crack a base, but I would'nt want to find out!

I'd say go and have a look at the other one, and decide if you can get it upto scratch without spending too much!

HTH abit!

Ha bless, no the 1cm overhang is nothing to do with the base, the base would be the same, just the aesthetics of the wall space being 80cm and the tank being 81cm (would that bug people or am I just pedantic)?!

Personally, I don't think 1cm would be enough to cause any issues, if you look at the new fluval edge, that overhangs and obviously doesn't cause issues, but it's not 25g.

I'm sure someone will give you a definite answer!!!!

Sounds like the perfect tank to me then! :good:

1cm aint alot really, doubt you'd notice it (much) :D

Everything about it appeals to me more other than the 1cm overhang because I am such a perfectionist and the fact its 12 gals less than the other one, but has all the lights, external filter, the better make, the better wood colour, it's more local. I suppose I could always resell it if it bugs me that much

this over hang is not a problem...
once the stand can take the weight them...
the advice given by tank manufacturers are many to protect them from liability...
A lil common sense and grains of salt go a long way...

Everyone's getting the wrong end of the stick about the overhang. It has nothing to do with the cabinet.

Imagine this is the wall space

-------------------------

And this is the tank

---------------------------

All I'm saying is that the tank is longer than the wall space
(might have to take a photo later so you get what I mean)

Do ya get me?

Yep get what you mean !your going ot be putting it on kitchen worktop rather than a stand and the tank is 1cm longer than what your worktop space is ! Easy :D lol

If it was me i'd go for the larger one and pic up filter heater etc off ebay .But you say it's not as local as the other one. So you'd have £40 for petrol(to pick it up) filter heater and a new bulb .Thats only saying that your budget is £115.

I alwyas say bigger is better and when it's in the kitchen Hell yeah ! ...you'll be too busy watching fish to cook :D lol

PMSL, i get you mel and yes get the tank the 1cm wont bother you when it's full of lovely little fish, and as you say if it does im sure the money could be recouped if you decide to sell.

I say go for it and then get pics up ;).

to others that have mentioned on a 1cm hangover that is not supported, would you want to risk it?, not keen on mopping up 125litres of water off the floor and having to replace the damaged stuff lol, becomes a very expensive tank that way :p

No! It's going on a stand lol!

Look at my pic - that tank is 60cm, the wall behind is 80cm, the tank I'm mulling over is 81cm so would just overhang the wall space at the right hand side - do you see what I mean now guys lol, it wouldn't obstruct anything, just look a bit irritating!

Hi mel, this thread is so funny it prompted me into my first post
You need to check size of stand, it may be longer than tank!
You could remove the end panel from your wall unit ( it looks about 30mm from here) or maybe you could cut it flush with the bottom of the wall unit.

p.s. You will also have to move the cat
