a 4 foot, 165 litre tank just came into my possession, and the only way i get to keep it is to get rid of my betta tank, sooo, im gonna buy some bigger dividers and put my bettas into the new tank, but that still leaves me a good 3 foot / 120 litres or so (26UK Gal / 31US Gal) on the other end of the tank, so im looking for some ideas.

bare in mind the bettas have to live in the same tank, so nothing too specialised, just looking for some interesting suggestions :)

I'd suggest giving the tank to me  I got given a 32uk gallon tank earlier in the year, and that would make a lovely addition :D

/me smiles nicely.

IMO, using it as a betta tank, seem a waste of a large tank?

Why not try some bigger fish, something you haven't kept before?

What sort of look are you aiming for? Gravel, sand, bog/driftwood, heavily planted, rocks etc etc? I would figure out what sort of style tank you are looking for and then work out the fish most suited to it- because it is going to be divided, you wouldn't have to worry fish being compatable with the bettas.
For example, gouramis and bettas pften enjoy the same sorts of habitats (lots of plants both floating and bottom dwelling, caves and small open spaces etc) - gourami's are beautiful fish and there are many types that would be suitable for that sort of size tank  .

Why don't you just toss a breeder box/ betta barracks in and utilize the tank to the fullest of its potential, Fish do like to swim around as you know, But bettas will wear themselves out if you give them too much room and current.

hmm breeder boxes would be be small for a permanent home surely? ive heard of a betta barracks before but im not sure what one is. i also couldnt really get the small 1-2 gallon plastic tanks for them as i have no way to heat them (might be ok without a heater in summer, but would be too cold in winter)

the reason i kinda have to keep my bettas in it, is that i no longer have any space for my betta tank, and couldnt possibly part with them :)

one of them could go in my Rekord i suppose, but my Delta already has a female in it, leaving 2 boys unhoused.

A breeder box is way too small to hold a betta, please don't discourage people from putting bettas in large tanks, because it can work out if you follow a few simple rules. Carrera, as long as you have the filter on the side of the divider without the betta, then the current shouldn't bother him. And its not always true that having a betta in a larger tank will wear them out, there are lots of people here that have bettas in 10 gallon tanks, which I believe is around the size the betta is getting portioned off to live in. Just provide lots of soft plants (real or fake) for him to rest on near the surface of the water, and he should do fine.

Breeder boxes, in tenk refugium, and betta barracks are all pretty much the same thing, a plexyglass cage that you put on the egde of your tank, the barracks tend to have several compartments so that you can keep several bettas, and ofcourse the breeder boxes have special floors to keep mommas from eating there fry.

They do make breader boxes large enought to hold 2 female mollies and 400 fry, and in tank refugiums up to 5 US gallons.

You could devide off 10 US gallons for him, give him more space than he could possibly use and then set it up specially so that he doesn't kill himself with the stress, or you could give 9 of those 10 gallons to increse the quality of life for the other fish you put into the tank, without significantly decreseing your bettas quality of life, if you love your betta more than anything then go ahead, use up more space than he needs, I'm sure plenty of people want you too. IMO he will be happier and show better color in an apropriately sized space.

Look for Item# LBT-LCS 1.8 gallons Here

or make one of These

Or if you've got money to flush down a toilet buy one of these and pull off the pump, its 2.5 USG, too big IMO

You go right ahead and tell the people in the betta section that 2.5 gallons for a betta is wasted space.
