I'm going to have a spare tank in a few weeks. (approx 2 x 1 x 1.5 ft)

I was thinking of putting it in my office (not a lot of space in it!)

I had thought of setting up a small cichlid tank but at the moment its still very much in the dreaming stage

My only proviso is that I want it to be colourful.

What would you put in it given it's a blank canvas? (only has a heater and a filter)

Inspire me... :S

I'd put mice in it :p

seriously
how about doing a micro tank
that is limit the fish to no bigger than 2cm
so you will be looking at
any of the boras species
Danio erythromicron (see my site)
any of the microrasbora species except M.rubescens as they reach a massive 3cm.
Corydoras habrosus and/or Corydoras pygmaeus

Hope that gives you an idea

Edit
I love Him :D (for those that don't know;Re:-avatar)

I would put shell dwellers in it. If you're not into that, I would put some cories and a school of harlequin rasboras, or if not that, then a few dwarf peacock cichlids.

If all else fails, I would divide it and get bettas.

I'd do a bunch of small tetras...

Thats about 24inch length, 12inch wide and 18 high = 23US Gallons and 19UK Gallons.

Why not try a pair of Kibensis? That could make an interesting tank..

I'd use it to grow out fish for a much bigger tank. :p

If i were to use it as a home for the fish, i'd put a dwarf pike cichlid in there or maybe a zebra crayfish would be cool.... African butterfly fish are nice too... ya could do a mini brackish tank with a figure 8 puffer, or some bumble bee gobies... hmmm....................

My tank of similar dimensions has
9 zebra danios
8 various khulis
2 corys (soon to be 5, I hope, although a different species)
And soon 3 swordtails from another tank

Its a really active tank, I've got some bits of mopani in a sort of mangrovey setup with some amazon swords and cabomba. The danios are growers, while they aren't the most colourful of fish they absolutely whizz around and give a real sense of 'fullness' to the tank.
