What wood is this ?

Could anyone tell me what this wood is by the pictures below and if it’s safe for aquariums ? If so will ir leach tannings etc ? Cheers

No idea what the wood is. If you bought it from a pet shop and it is for aquarium use, it should be safe.

Most wood will leach tannins for a period of time when it is put into water. Sometimes it stops leaching tannins after a few weeks, other times it can take months or years.

You can stick the wood into a bucket of water outside and leave it to soak. Change the water every couple of days and see how much tannins it releases.

is is spider wood? its very smooth

It's hard to identify especially after they cut away the branches.

Spider wood will have more long branches like a spider.

It could be a Manzanita that had been sand blasted.

Looks a bit like what we call overhere "ghost wood". Often used for decoration. But I'm not sure if this is the same.
