Hi, ive currently got a hoplo catfish residing in a 55 gallon tank and was wondering what some good south american cichlid tankmakes would be. Ph Is neutral.

Hoplos are a great fish to go with Souths so are pretty flexible - Things like Blue or Yellow Acaras would do well in this size tank :) But I would also get 2 or 3 more Hoplos as well

Wills

Ditto wills on getting more, I found a single hoplos was very greedy (I had a rescue one in for a while), mine went ok with pretty much anything, acara, severums, angels.

I would suggest oscars or jack dempseys, but that's just my personal taste

55 gal is a little on the small side for an Oscar. 75 gal min for a single Oscar to live comfortably. A standard 55 gal tank hasn't got the width needed for a chunky Oscar to turn properly

As above Jacks would be good for a pair, assuming its a male and a female. 2 male jacks would be a bit much. Oscars....def. no no

Forgot about them Rev. Dwarf cichlids would be awesome in that tank. Apistos or rams. Could have a couple of pairs...
