hi. i have a jack, and i need to no every cichlid possible to be compatible with him. so far i have heard: firemouth, convict, green terror.
tnx

Every cichlid is different so what might work with one might not work with another, a placid specimen could be kept with anything from larger tetras, barbs and danios to larger cichlids like Oscars,

other cichlid tankmates could be anything from Severum, sajicas, geophagus sp. chocolate cichlids, nicaragua cichlids, etc...

What is it currently kept with? If the fish has been kept on its own for a while then it is going to be less inclined to accept tankmates

You also have to take into consideration that JD's like all other Central American Cichlids can breed with any of the other CA Cichlids, this doesent happen with SA unless the fish are in the same genus.

So if you have a JD with a Convict for example and the are opposite sexes...they will pair off, breed and murder everything else.

At MFK i have seen Jds crossed with Cons, Midas/RD's, Firemouths, Texas, Red Bay Snooks, Sajicas, Jaguars and tons of other stuff.

I had my 1" juvi female Convict in the same tank as my 6" Male Sajica for a week and they bred and caused chaos.

if i tell you what i have in my tank you will think i am an idiot: 1" yellow lab, 2" blue gourami, 3" JD, blue crawdad. i have had them all for over 4 months, they get along great, they don't nip each other up, and they are happy with the water conditions :D

Nope deffo not rare, its guarenteed, CA's dont need to bond like SA's, they just 'do it' haha.

Yellow labs mix very well with SA/CA Cichlids from my experience, Crayfish don't.

tbf its far from guaranteed, and the simply way to stop this is to have them all the same sex,
Also its no suprise two very closely related species like convicts and sajicas crossbred, their DNA is as close as you can get

What is the size of this tank AstonN24vantage, mixing weird combinations if fine in my opinion so as long as the tank is large enough for them all to thrive

30g/114l. there are plenty of hiding places. crayfish has never even laid a claw on another fish and ive had him since apr. 09

In that case you don't really have the option of adding another cichlid, with the JD and the lab territories have been taken and a newcomer will face a lot of aggression,

from my experience definatly not a texas, they are too alike and one will dominate the other
i had to seperate mine, my jd constantly attacked the texas, it wasnt a case of territory, jd wanted texas out the tank!

does anyone know how jd's get on with keyholes?

edit: and is it safe to assume pairings between blue acara and jd are rare or?

The tank is too small for an adult JD. It will wind up killing everthing else in the tank. The problem with the crayfish is, when it sheds is shell its vunurable because its shell is soft for a few days. The JD can easily eat it once grown.

Admittedly I have done it successfully but its not something i would suggest, usually the JD will be far too aggressive and will usually stress the keyholes at the very least

no don't thinks its possible

ive had the JD with quite a lot of fish- including the lobster for some time now, and niether have even laid a claw/fin on another fish.
