Just for accuracy ...... they are not plain old texas cichlids, which are "green" texas cichlids (herichthys cyanoguttatus). Yours are the blue texas cichlids (herichthys carpintis), which are rather nicer looking, and more sought after.

A second that. It is for sure Carpintis. Normaly texas is synomnym with cyanoguttatus, I think. Isn't Carpintis also knows as pearl cichlid?

The terms "Pearl" and "Pearlscale" cichlid are usually appiled to Geo.brasiliensis.

People frequently use common names incorrectly. Hence I try not to use them at all. There's less confusion if you use the proper scientific names.

If you want to see a masterclass in confusion and incorrect use of fish terms, do a google search for "green texas cichlid". At least a couplpe of the hits on the first page will swear that H.carpintis is in fact the green texas cichlid.

Carpintis and its TONS of variants are what they call the 'Green Texas'...not that common names really matter.

Yeah, they are Carpinitis. I have a juvi. A really nice fish so far. Would be nice if he grows up like yours :good:
