What Type Of Algae Eater Do You Think I Should Get?

BN plec get to about 4-5" and are SLOW GROWERS. The also need some wood in their diet so take that into consideration.

As above says they will grow on average 4-5 inches but be prepared they can grow 6, they DONT need wood in the diet... there not a wood eating species but they will rasp to clear it from food matter, algae etc etc

may i recomend starlights

Not sure whats ment by starlights?... L182 or L183 either way both a terrible algae eaters and most wont touch it, they will have to be offered veg, however all omniverous plecs should be offered a braod range of foods to keep the diet varied and to make them happy and healthy :)

Okay thanks Jen, good advice! Are there varieties that are specifically good at eating algae (i know i will have to supplement them anyways) that i could look into?

Of bristlenose?, if so then tbh no the good ones IME are commons, common longfin and calico (like an orange and black type one lol).... all depends on what you actually like or want..... best bet would be a common to shift some of the algae, good work horses when younger, some do slow down with age but IME still as adults they are very good at cleaning algae.

Just for interest - how bad is the algae problem. Maybe it could quickly be solved by reducing daylight by a few hours or cranking up the water flow or water change schedule.

Bristlenoses are great little fish and do work hard indeed, but some algae simply wont be touched (black brush algae or thread stuff)

best see if you can fix the cause and then if you make progress perhaps the fish could add the final touches.

- failing that, how about a snail.
