after Xmas ill have one empty 15 gallon tank, ive concidered the posibility of using it as a hospital tank, but i decided against it

what do yo think i could stock it with?

please reply with a few suggestions, thankyou :)

i dont mind, im just wondering what to do with it

like a malawi cichlid tank
or a strange tank (shrimps, frogs, armoured catfish ect.)

From what I've seen of shrimps I think they are very entertaining to watch! Although I haven't been brave enough to get any yet as I've read stories about them jumping out of the tanks!

hehe, ive got a lid mate, dont worry

but i do like the idea of shrimps, my LFS sells loads

would a shrmp be eaten by anything?

Malawis are out of the question with a tank that small, im afraid :(

Shrimp will only get eaten by predetory fish,
and any fish that can live comfortably in your 15g will be small enough to not eat a shrimp :)

I strongly recomend you use it as a hospital tank though, you never know when you'll need it.

good idea im thinking of getting a 2/3 gal hospital tank is that an ok size? my biggest fish is about 6cm i plan to put in couple of fake plants basic sponge filter and a heater will i need lights?

and also a reccomendation for a lively aquarium is albino corys zebra danios and maybe some barbs

im a fan of the weird and wonderful, anything strange i could put in?

Can I just say that zebra danios (or any of the other common danio species/varieties) are unsuitable for anything smaller than 20 gallons.

Have you considered shell-dwellers? They are unusual and they are cichlids as well. I'd reccomend neolamprologus multifasciatus (the smallest and therefore most suitable) and here's a useful link: http://www.cichlidrecipe.com/shellweb/

edit: shrimp are also a great idea and there's a huge number to choose from. A heavily planted shrimp tank can be just as fascinating as a fish aquarium.

edit again: genesis - most things will eat shrimp :p ... or at elast peck at them and stress them out unecessarily

BTW, here's a shrimp link as well: http://www.petshrimp.com/index.html

Flame- that size hospital tank is fine.

Try to run the sponge filter in an established tank while you're not using it so you can just transfer it to the hospital tank when it's needed and the tank will be instantly cycled. Note, however, that if you put sick fish in the hospital tank, the sponge filter will need to be disinfected afterwards before you put it in your tank again.

Alternatively, keep the sponge filter in the hospital tank but keep the tank cycled by adding a tiny pinch of fishfood to it every few days. Just before using it, do a 100% water change to get rid of excessive nitrAtes.
