Ok, i've been given a brand new 8 gallon tank for free!! YAY!!

What could I keep in it?? It comes with a filter and I could easily buy a heater for it... or keep it coldwater (I would like a coldwater tank).

Any ideas what fish to put in it??

You could build yourself up a snail collony.

You could keep a fantail or two? Maybe a couple of black moors.. you might have to re-home them once they've grown too big though.

Breed some livebearers?

I don't know anything about coldwater fish, but dwarfpuffers are great little freshwater puffers that I think would do good in that size tank. Minimum tank recommendations are usually 2-3 gals per puffer....my experience was mine wasn't happy in a 5 gal, but I now have 3 in a 10 gal and life is good! You could put 2 comfortably in there, lots of decor and even probably an african dwarf frog. Check out dwarfpuffers. com

no to the fantails and moors.... goldfish rule is 20g for first fish, add 10g more for each extra fish. look into the puffers !

But if they are babies, and the water is well filtered, this isn't a problem.

As I said, you would have to be prepared to re-home them :/

I already have Puffers!!

I might go for 1 small goldfish and when he gets too big i'll rehome him to my cousin who has a big goldfish community.

No, DON'T get a goldfish... They are insanley messy, prefer company, and if you're stunting it,how will you know when to move it? You'd never grow out an oscar in an 8g, so why make the poor goldfish suffer?

Perhaps a pair of what was formerly known as rhinogobius wui? Or try and breed shrimp- amano shrimp maybe.

Go planted and get pygmy corydoras? Lovely little fish, very active through out middle tank, sometimes bottom too :p

I'm getting very frustrated here, I know there is another fish that stays quite tiny like that. Gets up to 4 cm tops, looks tetra like (believe it isn't though) and has got gorgeous blue eyes/blue line around the eyes. If anyone has a clue what I'm talking about, please let me know

Aplocheilichthys normani! No clue if you would be able to keep them in an 8G tank, but the ones I've seen have definatly not been big.

White Cloud Mountain Minnows in a planted tank, maybe? Apple snails are cool, you can fit 3-4 in there with a good filter.
