What To Do With My Betta With Cancer

Anyway.. I'm sorry to hear he's going downhill. :( It's good that he has such a great parent like you.

its not just that one big tumor, several more are growing now in his tummy, sides and back, that pic was from about a month ago.

I think I deffinaly have to put him down sometime soon, when I do Ill use clove oil to put him under and then quickly cut off his head. thats the easiest and most pain free way I know how.

Im sorry about your betta. Theese things happen. I best thing i could think about doing is euthinization. It has to be causing some discomfort or pain to the little guy =[. I recently lost a grandma to bone, lymphnode, brain, and lung cancer. It was very painful for her. She also had many tumors all over her body causing her extreme pain. I know it sounds horrible to euthinize him, but i belive that is the best route to go. Being a fishkeeper is , in my OP, trying to create the best possible living conditions for the fish, and trying to keep it happy as possible. I , personally, dont think having a painful, cancerous tumor on me would make me happy. Now, you can choose to keep him alive and do your best to take care of him, or go to a vet and have it removed ( most vets dont specialize in fish, and even then, its a very small fish), or you could euthinize him.

The choice is yours, and you know where i stand on this.

the point is, hes not happy, he is chewing the crap out of his tail. and I know for a fact he only does that when highly stressed. that one large tumor is not the only one, more and more are visiable all the time. if the fish is in pain and unhappy, theres not much you can do for a two inch long fish. except take away the misery as painlessly as you can.

So sorry to hear this news its terrible :( Its horrible in humans, i was diagnosed with cancer some years back now and lost many friends from it. I had no idea fish could suffer it too,

Poor things they have no idea whats going on either.

In my opinion i think maybe putting it down as sad as it is, may be for the best bet.

Just think if you were him, what would you want? Especially if hes in pain, hes obviously stressed.

Beautiful fish though. And im really sorry. Its so sad :(

My thoughts are with you.

btw I am a liberal christian, while kubora666's comments are out of place on a betta forum, its not going to throw a monkey wrench into my daily life. though I could have taken the hint that the username itself didnt lead to even liberal christian ideals.

I'm sorry your Betta isn't doing well. From what you described, you are making the right choice putting him down. Kudos to you for making this hard choice. I know it's difficult. :(

if he's so stressed thats he's chewing his tale, he must be in at least some pain, discomfort (a not so good comparison but rather like when a child is teething they bang there head on something to take the pain from the teeth away, but then their head hurts, maybe the fish is chewing his tail to distract from the other pain?)

as others have said you know your fish and you'll know when its time. take a few moments to sit and stare into his eyes, if its time, he'll let you know:)

Glad to see this topic is going to continue on the ailing fish, and not go off topic on religion.

Thank you.

I think I am going to have to, he is mooping around today and though eating is generaly not happy.

azul, if youd want to come over and do it for me that would be really nice. Ill call you on your lunch.

poor lil guy, i didn't know it had got so bad, you are doing the right thing for him especially if he is in pain *hugs*
