What To Do With A 40 Gallon

Sorry to start another stocking thread but I can't make up my mind and hubby isn't much help right now. Alright so I've got a 40 gallon tank set up by my computer that currently has 2 ropefish and 1 catfish(not sure what kind its about 5 inches long and still growing). Due to the catfish I can't have any small fish unless I were to re-home him(it has eaten tank mates before). I definitely want at least 2 more rope fish when I can find them again. I'm looking for more colorful fish. Any help is greatly appreciated.

I think ropefish also eat small fish don't they?

Need to work out what kind of catfish you have first, is it a clarias catfish aka walking catfish? Just thinking of predatory fast growing fish. As said ropefish can be predatory, not sure on suitable tank size for them as they get quite large but quite slow moving etc.

But yeah if you have a predatory catfish in there we need to work out what it is and then stock around it otherwise it might be a case of it being rehomed? If its fast growing it could be a monster in the making... Do you have any pictures?
