What To Do Next?

Hi all,

Well ive been waiting a few weeks for some more Pseudotropheus saulosi to arrive at my LFS was going for a species tank of 4 Males and 12 females but y tanks looking soooo empty at the moment with only 2 males and 5 females.

So my other idea is that I get 1more female saulosi when then arrive sometime but in the mean time get 8 Pseudotropheus acei (2m and 6F)

I was wondering if these 2 species would get along alright without any problems?

Any advice welcome.

What a shame you're not closer you could have had some of mine. Trouble with Acei is that unless they are adults and one has seen the mating behaviour the males and females look the same

Acei and Saulosi will get on just fine with each other however i agree with cheffi that maybe if you rush into fill your tank, you may get the wrong mix, certainly with juve acei fish it would be totally pot luck..

I mirror those thoughts on you getting just one more saulosi female, the nrmal size these fish are when sold in shops you have no guarantee that you will not just be buying another male in hiding (or not developed yet)

Despite you thinking that the tank is empty i would personally have a think about what to do (like you are ) so that you get the right fish for the tank, not just tank for the fish that will fill it up..


Ask your LFS if they will sell you the Acei and then trade them in against the saulosi when they come into stock?? its an idea, they might say yes.....

You suggesting he takes in a few lodgers for the time being Not such a bad idea.

it'll be either that or put something across the back of the tank or halfway to amke the few fiash he has take up more space and look fully

Well I think thats a plan. see if they will let me 'hire' some fish then return when the Saulosi come in.

I have to stick with my guns and go for a Saulosi only setup.
