Well I'm restocking my tank slowly even though it's already cycled but this is week 3 of the restock. I added a platy a Molly and 3 otos week one to have 6 fish then week 2 I added 1 platy and the tiniest little molly. Shes quite the scavenger. So now week 3 is tetra week. I was trying to decide between black skirt tetras or bleeding heart tetras but I realized my tank is pretty black so I didn't want black skirts and bleeding hearts are $4.29 here. I plan to get 8. 5 today then up the shoal next week. I'm calling a LFS I've never been to to see how much theirs are but do I have any other options?
The fish I still have to get are a pair of honey gouramis or 1(or a pair) of flame gouramis. Also add more platys once my fry grow up.

i personally like rummy nose tetra :good:

Sadly they don't sell them round here :( they're not too small? What is the smallest i could go without the gouramis being a threat to them?

RUMMY nose are my favourite as well and they grow a decent size when fully grown

can you get emperor tetras? they are spot on as well look really nice when bigger, how bout glowlight tetras they are a pretty colour

personally i love cardinals
i had Gourami also, they got on fine.
Had the Tetras first then got the gouramis.
a group of 8-10 of them is best :D

I like the rummy nose I'll ask if they've got em when I call a LFS around 40 minutes away. The emporers aren't my favorite but the glowlights are cool too. Any more suggestions on tetras that wouldn't be threatened by the gouramis?

With the cardinals they're 3.49 each here I'll ask when I call.

Ok just called looks like rummynose and bleeding hearts are out. Rummynose are $4.99 and bleeding hearts are $4.99 but I can get em for $3.99 I'm looking for 8-10. Don't really wanna pay $50 on tetras.

Cardinals may be best but idk. Any other options? I'd get em at my local petco. The LFS 40 minutes aways cardinals are $8.49. I wonder why they're prices are so high.....

Bloodfins, neons or cardinals, red eye, rummynose, emperor are all good choices. Harlequin rasboras are a nice shoaling species as well. I wouldn't worry about any of these with the dwarf gouramis. I have both neons and harlequins and they get along great. Well, more exactly, they basically ignore each other entirely. The harlys are a bit smaller than some of these other fish, so you could actually have a slightly larger shoal of them. Get them first and let them grow a bit bigger than the size at the LFS. They are also very inexpensive and really hardy little fish. :good:

I'm trying to decide. Maybe neons then a nice shoal. I think serpaes are too aggressive right?

Yup.

Serpae and gouramis would be a bad mix, IMHO.

If I went with neons how many could I do with my stocking? Or could I do 2 shoals? A shoal of 8 neons and a shoal of like 6 black skirts?

I forget the size of your tank... But I would warn against 6 skirts. That is a minimum and they can be nippy. You might get lucky and have a laid back bunch, but they do have potential nippiness.

Well I'm buying a qt tank today and I'm just always gonna have it set up with a few fish so in like 2 weeks I COULD get them??? Then if they're bad I could either return em or put em in the qt and just use it as a tank.

Oh and tank is a 29 gallon
