hi i have a problem at the moment with the fish in my tank. i recently added a firemouth cichlid and my two kribs haven't taken well to him at all. i want to seperate them but i need to lay my hands on a new tank. if i wanted to put the 2 kribs in a new tank what would be the minimum size? they are not a pair as they are 2 females? they sometimes fight each other, but both have been ganging up on the firemouth and he just takes it. need to seperate fast

Recommended size for kribs is 20g I believe. Providing you have nothing else with them in the tank.

agreed but if you say there not a pair and they fight what will happen if you move them to a smaller tank,,,,

try this,,, remove all the fishes rebag them all indiviually, rearrange the whole tank, totally different, try to make atleast three area,s for them , float the bags again for atleast 1hour<open ofcourse> and release one<the softest krib, 10mins,release the firemouth,10mins,release the other krib,, see what happens over a period of say 4 hours,,,worked for me before..........

how bigs the tank,,,,,l/w/d?
what other fish are in there?
whats the temp?

tanks 24 gallons,lwh = 91, 31, 38 (cm)
2 kribs
1 firemouth
5 serpae
5 lamp eyes
1 bn plec

temp 26 degrees

i was thinking of maybe moving just the bully krib to a tank of her own, but then i think she'd be lonely. what do you think?

Wouldnt it be best to remove the firemouth if this is the one causing the trouble?

Try doing as nelly suggests, sometimes a tank re-arrangement can work wonders with territorial fish, sometimes doesnt, but its worth a try :)

hi, i did try rearranging the tank decor, but not to the extent as reccommended above so will give that a go and see if it works. i don't mind moving the firemouth, but figured he would require a larger new tank than the kribs, also, i don't know if he could live on his own or if he would need other fish for company.
can a firemouth live by himself? if so what size tank for a firemouth?

thanks for the link, the fish in the picture is beautiful. i was hoping to get a 55 gallon after christmas but i think i might do it now (if money will permit) and put the firemouth in there. he would have been put in there eventually anyway as the tank he's in now is only 24 gallons. he's small at the moment though, barely 5 cm. thanks everyone for the advice.
