I am getting mbuna

labridchromis caeruleas
'red fin' (dont know scientific name, it has a dark blue hard with a tint of yellow on body)
cant remember name, something like 'asistophilia' - does that ring any bells?

I was thinking of feeding them cichlid flakes, cichlid pellets, should i change one of these for a more veg in their diet? Also, do you ever have to feed them plants or cucumber etc?

thanks

The green bag is more for South American cichlids.

one more thing. I have protein pellets b/c 2 of the 3 species are carnivores. The third is an omnivore. To much protein in a fish that's a herbivore can cause bloat and kill them.

My fish love love love the spirulina! Its great for their colors as well. I like the new life spectrum cichlid pellets. Or the harikiri cichlid pellets for my larger cichlids (medium gross).

Sprinula Flakes will take care of there veggie needs. I would feed them the Sprinula in the morning, then int he middle of the day, and then feed the the Cichlid pellets or Flakes at night. New Life Spectrum IMO best brand ever. If its avalible, get it!

thanks, i am going to stick to feeding them twice a day

spirulina - morning
flake/ pellet - night - i will alternate between these 2, that ok?

I found that cucumber; shrimp; peas; and pawns my cichlid like or tho that only have it every now and then.
I only feed them every other day too i use cichlid pellets and flakes.

frozen blood worm or brineshrimp

Definitely no Frozen (or otherwise) Bloodworm for Mbuna - far too much meaty protein, which can prove fatal to many species.

Frozen brineshrimp as an occasional treat is fine. :good:
