The 1st and last links are OK - I have used both for Mbuna tanks.

The rest look like they are more for New World cichlids and are likely to have a high protein content.

I personally just use Hikari now with the odd treat of spirulina enriched frozen brine shrimp. :good:

Id be careful of GENERAL cichlid food as most is designed for predatory/high protein Cichlids such as Oscars etc, and the high trace of protein could potentially harm or kill your fish.

The Spirunla (sp.) Flakes should be good

Pellet Wise id try and get some Hikari Cichlid Excel (White packet) Designed for those with a vegetable based diet :good:

Edit:
Also I feed mine Prawn on the odd occasion as a treat which they go wild for...

Lol Ferris both posted basically at the same time :p

right, so will any spirulina flakes be good as i would want a bigger tub and i dont know if MA stock that brand?

i will get the hikari, i thought i put it on watch but obviosly didnt so i'll defo get some of that.

is there any flake you could reccomend? or would any be ok as long as it says african/ malawi cichlids?

I know cichlids can be quite sensitive and dont want to be killing or damaging them at £8+ each time  so i am asking a lot of questions

Sprinula Flakes are Sprinula Flakes, no matter what brand. I got some called Ocean Nutrtion, its a good sized tub, an di got it for 4 dollars ( E 2). Anything that is for african Cichlids should work.

I think I have some Hikari Flake at home, Ill repost when Im at home tmorrow :good:

Pretty much - it's quite good actually, i do still buy that sometimes and the fish love it. :good:

I think it's been re-branded as Tetra Pro Veg.

so would it be pointless in using it along with spirulina and pellets? I am after a varied diet, is there a brand out there for cichlids that doent contain veg?

Whilst variety is good - most Mbuna are vegetarian so trying to find a non-vegetarian food is pointless.

What species are you keeping/planning to keep?

I've seen that - we have labs and something blue and yellow and something with lots of colours - that narrows it down

Labs in the wild are insectivores so a little protein won't do them any harm but you need to identify your other fish before you decide on any feeding regime. :good:

Ok so you have 3 Omnivore species (the 2 different Labs and the Borleyi) and 1 Carnivore (A.latifasciata).

As you don't actually have any Herbivores - i would add frozen brine shrimp as part of the staple diet. Along with what you already have - that should be fine. :good:

got the scientific names, as i have just been!

labridchromis caeruleas (white & yellow) - omnivore
Astatotilapia "CH 44" (latifasciata) - carnivore
Copadichromis Borleyi - carnivore

and my foods that i have bought:

nutrafin spirulina
hikari excel pellets (white pack)
tetrapro Veg

so all i need is some brineshrimp corrct? then were sorted... hopefully!

Yep - sounds good. :good:
