Obviously I don't want a full listing but some basic 'staple' fish (or ones you've bought recently) that would let me know if my LFS is asking silly prices would be a good idea! (if you could also add who your local LFS is then that would be grand) :good:

man that varies so much from fish to fish it's pretty hard to say.

there's a really helpful topic giving review of loads of UK Fish shops, hopefully some near you have been reviewed.

Any idea what fish your planning on stocking?

This was another reason why I started the topic, I'm doing this on a student budget! I've been investigating loads of fish and came up with some great ideas, got feedback from the community and then I stumbled across a thread saying that some guy could only find cories for £15 in his LFS! So I'm also thinking about whether I need to re-think my stocking plans to meet my budget. :-(

My latest wish list is:

That sounds a nice stocking level for a 20gal imo.

Corys vary in price from say £2-3 to £20+ it depends on their breeding. Just "fish" around your local aquatic shops there are so many different breeds to choose from its so hard! Currently have some leapard corys at my lfs theyre about £9 was well gutted because i cant afford to get 4 or 5 of them!

Honey gouramis, max £2.99 each. You might have a bit of trouble getting the pleco, and I can't comment on pricing, but if you went for a rubbernose instead (some nice species of you look around) they're only a very max of £5. Or if you wanted a normal otto, £2.99 max. The corys will vary on price, have a look around. There are plenty of cheaper species that are also nice looking. And I have no idea on the rasboras.

yeah about £3 for the honey gourami

don't know for the pitbull plec, otto's though should only be £2/3 each

cory's metae or elegans I've seen both for £3 each, not sure about the other species.

and I've never seena rasbora for more than £2... don't know about that particular species but I doubt if they'll be much more than that.

sure your student budget can handle it :D

That's brilliant :)

We've had an LFS or 2 recommended in our area so we're going for an investigatory trip this weekend, and maybe to order some fish ready for when our tank has cycled :)

Thanks for all your help :good:

Aqualife in Sainsburys normally has good prices, last time I went they had a few different cory varieties, but you can probably ask them to order you some in. I did see some sort of larger otto species (I think they were Parotocinclus) in The Aquatic Centre, so if you specifically want those then that's not a bad bet. If you specifically want small schoolers, Aurendal Aviaries normally has all sorts of things, like microrasboras.

Ooh, local info, this just gets better and better. Saturday is going to be fun :D
