Hi,

I have been offered a 75 gallon fish tank with stand hood and filter today all for a $100. I haven’t seen the tank yet, but I am seriously thinking about buying it. I have space in my living room, but money at the moment is a little tight because I am going on vacation next week to Europe for two weeks.

Even though I don’t have the time to set up a tank right now and frankly don’t have a lot of money to spend, would it be worth it to buy it for later and then buy a few fish at a time to get it up and running?

My second question is what the heck to put in all that space. I currently have a 10 gallon and a 20 gallon, heavily planed tank and I have absolutely no experience in large fish. Please give me your expert options on what to do with all that water!

If you have the money, go for it! Thats a great deal. And, just because its a large tank, doesn't mean you need to stock it with large fish. What fish do have have in your other tanks? What kind of fish do you want to stock your new tank with? Large cichlid community, small fish community, a single large fish etc?

you dont need to put cichlids in, it could still be a community tank.

or if u did want something simple, try an oscar, doesnt take much, you dont need to add to much to the tank.

and they can go up to 2 weeks without food

Thanks,

I am definitly thinking of a comunity tank, I currently have bloodfin tetras, rainbowfish, hatchetfish, danios and a betta.

I would probally like to have something larger than 2inchs, but something that would shoal/school togeather. anything you guys can think of? Goramis? Angel fish? Anything else?

I have a feeling I will plant it, as it will be large enough to get some good vegitation in there.

Keep the advice coming! B)

long finned zebra danios, neon tetras, usually most tetras are schoolers, watch the tank if they all stay in clumps.. if they do they may be a schooling fish

If you want shoalng fish over 2 inches congos tetras could be what your after, or maybe red eye tetras as they are around the 2 - 3 inch mark.

maybe try a school of larger sized rainbow fish, they are beautiful but they can be expensive. or you could get a small school of pacus, they look like piranahs and they are an active fish.

Wow, thats a blast from the past! Since then, I have Moved to Finland, and Currently I have a 100 gallon tank, and an 80 gallon community angel tank...wow...how time changes thing. When I first posted this topic, I thought that 20 gallons were a lot, but now, even the 100 is feeling a bit small...anybody have a pond there not using?? :shifty:

id love to have a pond. i just wonder if there could be any way to heat an outdor pond through winter.
