ok i`m just about to start changing a tank over to suit african chichlids
the tank will be quite heavily caved at the back and along one side lightly planted with an open swimming space across 3/4 off the front

i will put the size of the tank in preference to gallons as i know it does cause some confusion with uk and us gallons

36" long
12" deep
15" high

the tank is also well over filtered to the extent of the filters on it would easily cope if the tank was 3 times the size that it is :)

i`m after a selection of compatable fish preferably of the nice pretty colors :) adult size isnt really an isue as i shall be buying fish most likly around the 2" mark to start with and growing them up

in the new year i`ll be upgrading to several 6 or 8 foot tanks in a fish house we are building over the summer period :) so as long as they dont reach adult size within around 4 months all will be fine :D

any sujestions on fish would be appriciated and links to sites to do a bit of studying would also be great :)

thanks in advance

Richard

hey your tank cant really hold more then 5 MAX! ur tank is like 28g id say mbunas they only grow like 5 inches SOme Electric yellows Get some Electric blues too :D they wont grow to adaulut size in 4 months so you have alot of options :alien:

Richard, you may want to rethink your layout, and put lots more rocks in the tank. not only will this look better with mbuna, it'll give the fish more of a choice when it comes to hidey holes, and will in turn lessen the aggression between the fish.

Look around your local lfs', see what they have to choose from and come back when you see some you like and ask about them. as you are stocking juveniles you can have a good number of fish to start with, i'd say 12-18, but you will need to thin them out when they grow, or they will do it for you!!

I think that a tank looks better with several fish of one or two species, you have more chance of breeding them too, but its up to you.
