I have purchased an affinity Half Moon Mocha pool for my patio. I would like to try and breed some Rainbows but don't know what species to get. Could someone recommend an easy (?) type to try. The pond will be well planted and cycled before I get fish.

It really depends on what species of rainbow fish are readily available to you and then work out their desired water requirements and ease of breeding maintenence. I would suggest checking out your local fish/ pet shops to see which species they currently get in stock and also check online sale sources like Fish companies that home deliver live fish to your door, Facebook fish groups in your area, fish clubs, and places like Ebay if live animals are allowed to be sold on there. In Australia live animals are not allowed to be sold on eBay but places like GumTree are fine.

I have a personal love affair going with Pacific Blue Eyes (well honestly practically all the Blue eye species), Threadfin Rainbows are also stunning and fairly readily spawn.

I think this site has nearly all the rainbow fish breeds with information on their origin and individual water requirements. So once you find what is available in your area it should help you with the other requirements of water chemistery, temperatures, adult size and breeding requirements.

I do not know what restrictions there might be on importing live fish from other countries to your country so that is also worth checking prior to making any online purchases from other countries.

Thank you Baccus for the info. That link is really helpful.

I am too a fan of rainbowfish, particularly Threadfins :)

That link Baccus gave is a regular site I go to as well for information regarding just about any specie of Rainbowfish.

Just to mention these fish may be kept outside permanently. The pond will be well filtered and covered to stop leaves falling in. How many approx. could I keep in this pond, (Average size about 3") I know it's small but space is at a premium.

How big is your pond?
If you could give dimensions, that would help.

But if you know the volume of water this pond can hold, thats info that would be handy as well.

Pond is approx. 1mtr x 1mtr x 60cm. Approx. 336ltrs.
