Hi,I need advice!I recently began working on a 75g discus(hopefully)tank.I have an udergravel heater(100w),1" sand to cover it,1" plant substrate,2" gravel for plants. Also,a canaster filter(350 Magnum),a UV sterilizer,a 260w Jebo Light,a quarintine setup(10g),and loads of medicine and chemicals.I have been working on this thing 4 over a year because I was waiting 4 my driftwood to sink.It never did! This is where I think my problem came from.It was a 3-4ft piece of driftwood I had sitting in the backyard 4 years and I soaked it 4 almost a whole year. Finally I had enough and decided just to glue it to the back of the tank.I used underwater glue that is supposed to dry completely under water with no toxic residue. Then I filled it with water after the glue dried. It has now been cycling for 2 weeks with no fish or plants. My lights just arrived in the mail last week and when I put them on the tank with the antic blue bulbs going, thats when I saw them!Tiny pinhead sized white bugs everywhere! They make jerky swimming movements through the water and can outswim the filter. They crawl all over my driftwood and attach themselves to the glass. Some are small and some seem to have little white sacs attached to them as though they were splitting apart. They are apparently multiplying as I have whatched them through the week. But what are they? What R they eating? Will they kill my plants and/or fish? How do I get rid of them without turning my tank blue or green or any other strange reactions?Any help is appreciated as I am clueless.I've kept(or killed)fish 4 years but have never seen these bugs.Thanx,Kazuya73

sounds like planeria (spell). been a lot of his i have it in both tanks of mine from high ammonia. luckily in on i have a betta and inthe other dollars, rtbs, pictus and barbs to sort it!
it is not thought to be dangerous

I dont think so Sharkbait.I just looked up planaria and it appears to be a flatworm?.What I have doesn't seem to be a worm at all; more like a cockroach when it is on the wood.Moves quickly!!Then again I dont have any w :/ ay of putting them under a microscope,so maybe they are worms.Anyway, thanx 4 the reply. :/

Sounds like water fleas to me, I used to have them, along with planaria. They will eventually go away with water changes and less feeding. I believe they are harmless.

I would say cyclops, because,
Some are small and some seem to have little white sacs attached to them as though they were splitting apart
sounds like the females with eggs.
Do they look like this?

Cyclops are 100% harmless and make good fish food.
I woulden't of thought 'water fleas' or daphnia could out swim your filter, but just in case, do they look like this?

Once again, daphnia are also 100% harmless and are actually sold as live fishfood :) .
