What Nannostomus species are safe around Apistogramma fry

Look at the pictures tom has for his uni and read the interesting statement on attempts to breed them. The ones today might be the same species but they are nothing but black.

Tom C has numerous populations of N. unifasciatus including the super-red form, some of which he collected himself. There is indeed a widely distributed population of N. unifasciatus in the hobby with no red/orange pigment in the caudal but it is not the only one regularly available today. Both Wetspot and Aquatic Clarity commonly have another population from Colombia with red/orange pigment in the caudal. Wetspot had them two few weeks ago and Aquatic Clarity has them now. He lists them as being from Brazil but I'm quite sure they are Colombian. They are not the super-red form but they do have color in the caudal other than black. I have some here. I until recently also had the super-red form which Wetspot had gotten in on two occasions years ago. Fingers-crossed that they do so again.

Will do. I'm surprised about the Wetspot batch. I've never received an all-black population from them. They usually have Colombian stock with some color on the caudal and the all-black are usually Rio Negro Brazil.

They were purchased around 2 1/2 years ago when i first setup the aquarium. I can try to nap a picture if you want.

They were purchased feb 2024:

Nannostomus unifasciatus
"One Line Pencilfish" "Colombia"

So the exporter was in columbia not necessary the catch location.

Even though my beckfordi were not preying on my cockatoo fry I decided not to risk predation in the future. I sold the beckfordi and bought ten wild caught Nannostomus marginatus gold from Aquatic Clarity. One fish was DOA so I have nine new fish.

These are from Brazil. They are a lively group. I asked Jeff where was the catchment area but he didn’t respond to my query.

I think at least 20 years. started as more of a hobby but has picked up over the years. Maybe not that long - the oldest reference i could find goes back to 2014 which is around 12 years but could be longer.

Hum. The domain was created in 2008 and there is a reference that he has been shipping fishes for 15 years as of 2018 - so maybe a little over 22 years.
