Hi All,

Now I'm managed to sort out my CO2 system and getting that established, I decided to turn my attention to the lighting setup and I can tell you I wasn't too happy with what comes with the package that you buy.

This is verbatim the information on the lighting unit and the tubes respectively:

Lighting Box Unit
Aquarium Typ Multilux GB
ta 25/50Hz/240-/2x25w/GB

First Tube
Sylvania
Standard
F25w/30"/33-640 T8
Cool White
With a reflector

Second Tube
Juwel Aquarium
Warmlite
25watt/742mm
With a reflector

So working this out I have 1.04wpg - no wonder it's looking so dreary in there :(

At the moment I have an Amazon Sword, Echinodorus Green, Microsorum Pteropus plus a few others that I have no idea what they are and will post photos on here to ask for IDs.They are only easy plants but I also have recently purchased some Riccia (before I knew that they require 2+wpg).

Can I please have some recommendations of the best tubes to get and any links to UK sites I can order them from. I would obviously like to put in as higher wattage bulbs as I can but I am planning on getting a hood made (if I can) so I can tif in more units to replicate a dusk 'til dawn enviroment.

Thanks

Martin :good:

Thanks for that I will, I think his name is Richard .

Was just wondering if people had any experiences with different tubes.

this threads a bit dead
i have used interpet tritons before now and theyre nice bulbs but they do give of an odd light, quiet pink, good lights though
ive also used hagen bulbs and ones from B&Q and ive prefered the triton over all of them, im now using a interpet t5 and the light is almost white and very pleasing to look at.
hope this helps :)

He is good, I got a response (on a Sunday night) within 2 minutes.

Looks like I'll be going for either the Daylight or Spectrum T6s, but I'm not too sure what the main difference is.

They are also still only 25watts, so working out the WPG it means that my rate would still only be just above 1 :(

Mart

Edit: He replied with Daylite = White and Specrum = Pink. Do you guys go for a mix? If so do you bother about what goes at the front and what goes at the back?

told you he was good :)
the diffrence being that t6 is narrow and gives off more intense light so is better for growing plants under :)

If you want to get higher light without having 4 T8/T6/T5 in line i.e don't want 4 bublbs lined up filling the hood, then I would suggest PCs.

replied in your other thread without listing tubes.

Options are for PCs in your tank

4 24W starters with 4 bulbs. These would fit 2 in the spce where 1 of your bulbs fit. (96W)

2 36W twin starters with 4 bulbs. These may need to be staggered i.e. left right left right as I don't know the dimensions of your hood. (144W)

1 55W twin starter with 2 bulbs. These are only 22" with endcap and therefore it would be a little darker at the ends (which I quite like as it gives the fish somewhere to hide and also hides your pipework. (110W)

Bulbwise I like the Interpet DaylightPlus bulb which is the correct spectrum for plants and gives off a nice bright white. Some use 1 daylightplus and 1 Triplus as a mixture.
