Hello. I have a bunch of these in my tank. They look like mini ramshorns but i don't have any of those in my tank. I don't mind snails, I have a few narites but these are reproducing so fast and I'm a bit worried about them. I have been cleaning my glass so there are less algae. I do wan't to stop the population from growing and killing off some of them. Will assassin snails be helpful with dealing with them or are they just too small for assassins to take care of?

There are several different kinds of ramshorn snails, some of which are considered pests. They usually hitchhike in on plants. The more food available, the faster the population will grow. I would reduce what you are feeding the tank if you don't want them. You can also just pick them off the side of the tank and dispose of them.

My main worry about an assassin snail would be if it would go after your nerite snails, but I have no experience with carnivorous snails.

Looks like BRH (Blue Rams Horn) snails to me. They can be helpful but annoying to look at. I suggest removing as many as you can find ASAP, before they reproduce.

Ramshorns, and agree with the above...assassins WOULD take care of them, AND your nerites, unfortunately

Can you relocate the nerites for a while?

I've had those tiny ramshorns and physid snails in my tanks for years. I'm just careful not to over feed the fish, and to remove the debris from the top of the sand at water changes. There may be snail in the tanks but their numbers aren't out of control.

Will they grow to look like real ramshorn or? I have been feeding less and I just did a water change. Removing them all by hand is nearly impossible. I can re-home my nerites for the time being until my assassins take care of them and then just switch the snails between the two tanks whenever I need to. If I don't feed the assassins and the neriets are in a different tank will they stop the population from growing? Thanks for your feedback

Happy day...another way to rid them more quickly than finger-picking would be to take a 1/4 cucumber cut lengthwise, scoop out the seeds and drop it to the bottom. You can old it in place with a wooden skewer jammed into the substrate at a slight angle. The snails should flock to it and after you pick out the nerites, humanely re-home the rest. Thinking of re-homing, I remember when the police in Washington, DC decided to re-home the women of negotiable affection to Virginia. That was slightly less exciting than the process you are about to undertake.

There are several species of ramshorn; the ones I have grow no bigger than a few mm, but there are other species which grow to a few cm - those are the ramshorns you are thing of. It's rare to get the large ones come in with plants but very common for the small ones to arrive that way.
