okay so i have had my 55 gallon setup for many months with various plants and fish. i had 2 48 inch t12 daylight bulbs and a blue LED strip and I loved how it looked nice and bright , clear and white. last week i added a large log and two new plants, jungle valis and anubias nanas. since then i dont know if it is the water or the lighting but the tank just looks dim and yellow :( any suggestions as to what may have happened and how i can fix it? i just want it to be bright again. but im afraid if i put brighter lights in my fixture that algae will grow. any help is appreciated.

this is the currentplant stocking now in the 55 gallon
2-3 java fern
1 amazon sword
2 temple plants
1 group of jungle val
1 anubias nana

Get new bulbs. They will sloly dim over time if they don't just die out. Mines is dimmer it's been 5-6 months. Change the bulbs and I think you will be happy.

Large log= tannins= tea colored water.

Solution: try a large waterchange if you want it to clear up. Logs can be boiled to help draw out the tannins. You will however probably have colored water for at least a couple months w/ a large log. The fish are suppose to like it though  .

This will indeed be the case if you didn't supply the plants with more CO2 and nutrients upon adding more light.
More light = the demand for CO2 and nutrients increases
Add some purigen to the filter to clear the tannins from the water.
Do the bulbs have reflectors? This would help.
Personally if the t12 bulbs were older than a year then I would change them.
